![]() The goal of the counselors and staff of BBS are to conduct a successful session each year.
A very important part of achieving this goal is working with sponsors, guidance counselors, parents/guardians
and Wisconsin’s young men to ensure that the selection and orientation process is effective. This portion of our site
is dedicated to explain what someone attending our program should expect to experience if chosen to attend. You are encouraged to review and utilize each of the following orientation resources presented here so that you have a good understanding of our program. If you don’t find an answer you are looking for or want to confirm something, please use the option to submit a specific question and we will work to respond as soon as we are able. This presentation is similar to what a live orientation presents and provides good general information and answers many of the common questions about the program. This can be the quickest way to see general orientation information.
If you have any difficulty viewing the presentation, please refer to the "viewing notes" at the bottom of this page.
Orientation Video It is highly recommend that if you are not able to attend an orientation
Live Orientation Session Staff members throughout the state make an effort to provide live orientations whenever possible. They can’t travel to each community but do publish a schedule so those in surrounding areas can possibly attend one in their general area. A schedule will be posted by February or March for the locations and dates for live orientations. These are usually the best opportunity to learn about, and ask questions about, our program. Click here to view the schedule of live orientations to find one in your area.
Participants of BBS are called citizens because for a week in June they are “citizens” of the 51st state which we create on Ripon’s campus.
A number of citizens from 2009 were video captured at the end of their session talking about how their week went for them and offering
some advice for future citizens. These testimonials are in their own words, unedited and sincere reflections of their experience. They are posted
on YouTube but a few can be found here. We felt some chosen to attend BBS may be unsure of what to expect and if they should attend.
We hope that hearing from the previous year’s citizens will provide a credible source of opinion on the program. More testimonials and videos can be found on YouTube by clicking here (this will open a new window).

so that we are sure to be able to reach you accurately. To choose which format: There are numerous ways to view or download the files above. The files referencing this note are larger files and require the ability to view either PowerPoint® presentations or Adobe PDF documents. If you have Microsoft PowerPoint or a PowerPoint viewer you can download and view the PowerPoint version. If you don't, we recommend that you download the Adobe PDF format as the software to view it is very commonly available and is free. You can install the Adobe reader called Acrobat by clicking here (which will open a new window) and then clicking on the download button near the bottom of the page. To download and view these files: Please click on the link for the file and format you wish. If your PC has the ability, the presentation will download and open -- please note that the download time could take a long time and it may appear that nothing is happening while downloading. The other method is to download the file and store it on your local PC and then open or view it -- this can be a better option for slow internet connections. To do this, right click on name and choose "Save Target As..." (for IE) or "Save Link As..." (Netscape). Once the file is downloaded, run the file from your PC by double-clicking on it where you had saved the file and it should open.
